Overview:

The SA Health Media Unit coordinates all media responses, interviews and press conferences for the Department for Health and Wellbeing and South Australian public health system including local health networks, the Rural Support Service and shared services including Breast Screen SA, SA Dental, SA Medical Imaging and SA Pathology.

Working in a fast-paced environment as part of a supportive team, our Principal Media Adviser is responsible for providing comprehensive strategic media and communications services for SA Health.

You’ll work closely with the policy makers, doctors, nurses and health executives, while based between metropolitan hospitals and the Department for Health and Wellbeing’s office in Hindmarsh Square, Adelaide.

The ideal candidate has proven experience delivering press releases, media events, managing high stakes issues as well as working closely with a variety of key executives – complemented with strong written and verbal communication skills:

  • The Principal Media Adviser is a key leader of the SA Health Media Unit, responsible for protecting and promoting the reputation and services of SA Health.
  • This involves leading the research, development and implementation of media strategies, responses and crisis communications, working collaboratively with the Media Manager and senior SA Health executives on a broad range of plans, programs, campaigns and services.
  • The role also coordinates the effective day-to-day operational management and leadership of a small team of Media Advisers who are direct reports to the role.

Criminal History Screening Requirement

  • A National Police Certificate (NPC) for employment involving no contact with vulnerable groups is required for this position (general employment)

SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.

Special Conditions

  • Tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, media, arts, government or similar field from an Australian Institution, or comparable overseas qualification/experience.
