About the role

As a Medical Scientist (MeS-2), you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services. This includes participating in all aspects of test performance, from planning and execution to analysis, interpretation, and result release. You’ll collaborate closely with a dedicated team of scientific, technical, and medical professionals to address complex challenges, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory practices. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to assist in training and supervising staff while driving innovation through research and development initiatives.

About You

We are seeking a motivated and skilled professional who brings a strong blend of expertise, teamwork, and technical capability to this vital role. To succeed, you will demonstrate:

  • Expertise and Experience: A high level of scientific expertise in a relevant medical laboratory discipline, with practical experience in pathogen whole genome sequencing, bioinformatics, and microbiology/virology procedures at a tertiary level.
  • Technical and Analytical Skills: Proven ability to perform high-quality laboratory testing, troubleshoot equipment, and apply quality assurance processes effectively, all while using various software applications and laboratory computing tools.
  • Adaptability and Initiative: Capacity to prioritise and manage workflows efficiently, operate under pressure with limited supervision, and proactively identify and solve problems in a dynamic environment.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Strong personal, oral, and written communication skills to collaborate with diverse professional teams and clients while fostering a positive team environment and delivering exceptional customer service.
