About the Role

As an Associate/Genetic Counsellor, you will embark on a rewarding career in Genetic Counselling working with other experienced professionals in the field. You will play an integral role in the Adult Genetics Unit, assisting in the delivery of comprehensive genetic counselling services to families seeking support and guidance.

In this role, you will participate in all aspects of the genetic counselling process, providing families with crucial information and emotional support to help them understand their genetic health. You will develop your skills in assessing family histories, interpreting genetic test results, and communicating complex information with empathy and clarity. About You

We’re seeking a dedicated and qualified Genetic Counsellor who brings the following qualities:

  • Qualifications: Certification in Genetic Counselling as required by the Board of Censors for Genetic Counselling, Human Genetics Society of Australasia  AND on the Register for Genetic Counsellors (HGSA) as Registered  OR for Associate Genetic Counsellor- Clinical Masters in Genetic Counselling (from a program accredited by the Board of Censors for Genetic Counselling, Human Genetics Society of Australasia) or a Graduate Diploma in Genetic counselling or a one-year Masters in Genetic Counselling awarded prior to 2015 and on the Register of Genetic Counsellors, HGSA, as MHGSA Provisional.
  • Skills: Strong communication, time management, and advocacy skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, changing environment.
  • Experience: Proven experience delivering genetic counselling services in a clinical genetics unit, providing emotional support and information to individuals and families.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of genetics, genetic testing, and counselling principles, as well as the emotional and ethical aspects of genetic disorders.
