About the Role

In this pivotal role, your leadership will be essential in providing high-quality, person-centred care while managing and mentoring nursing and midwifery teams. You’ll be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day coordination of clinical activities, ensuring that all care is delivered efficiently, consistently, and in line with best practice standards. This includes facilitating the development of your team, fostering a positive workplace culture, and addressing any inconsistencies between practice and policy.

As Nurse Unit Manager, you will guide your team in the application of contemporary nursing and midwifery practices, helping to foster a collaborative environment where staff are empowered to grow and succeed. You’ll also take the lead in promoting consumer engagement initiatives and facilitating change management processes, ensuring the highest quality of care is maintained.

Essential Criteria

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse/Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, with a current practising certificate with at least 3 years post-registration experience as a Registered Nurse/Midwife.
  • Effective leadership skills, including strong communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Capacity to review and improve care models to ensure they are person and family-centred.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a workplace environment that supports staff development and potential.
  • Proven flexibility, innovation, and creativity within a whole-of-service setting.
  • Experience leading and promoting consumer engagement initiatives.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate change management processes.
  • Experience in management and leadership roles, including supervision of students, enrolled nurses, and less experienced staff.
