About the Role:

The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network is seeking a Nurse Consultant to join the dynamic team within our Acute Surgical Unit. 

The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) is a leading provider of public healthcare services in South Australia.

The Division of Surgical Specialities and Anaesthesia (DSSA) is recruiting for a Nurse Consultant (NC) within our newly established 21 bed Acute Surgical Unit (ASU). The ASU also contains two See and Treat chairs and a Quick Access Clinic. In this role, you will support the transition of patients through all aspects of their care pathway ensuring optimised access to care progression within DSSA, provide expert surgical nursing care and opinion within the person-centred care framework, and provide support and leadership to the multidisciplinary team.

This position will work cohesively with the Nurse Unit Manager, Head of Unit and the multidisciplinary team whilst supporting care provision across DSSA. The Nurse Consultant role is pivotal in helping to develop and implement innovative strategies that enhance patient outcomes, using strong communication and interpersonal skills that will support effective teamwork and enable seamless coordination of care.

In order to practically achieve the transition of ASU patients through their required care pathway, this role will work daily with the NALHN Network Operations Centre and the other DSSA inpatient wards to coordinate Divisional bed management functions.

In summary, it is expected that the two major functions of the role will be:

  • to provide expert clinical surgical nursing care and opinion for patients requiring care under the ASU bed card
  • to facilitate access to care through bed flow management for consumers requiring general surgical emergency admissions and care episodes

As a Nurse Consultant, you will play a vital role in driving nursing practice improvements, fostering a culture of continuous learning and ensuring the delivery of high-quality surgical care. Your exceptional leadership skills, coupled with your clinical expertise, will guide and mentor nursing staff, promoting best practices and evidence-based approaches.

To be eligible for this position, you must be registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
