(As per the SMOEA 2022, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years.  Rotations following the initial 6-months Obstetrics Medicine Registrar will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills, and capabilities.)

About the Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Obstetric Team as the Obstetric Medicine Registrar, where you will be responsible for: (See role description below for more)

  • Participation in Obstetric Medicine Outpatient Clinics, assessment and management of new patients undertaken, in consultation with the supervising Consultants.
  • Participation in all duties associated with obstetric medical inpatients, including assessment of new admissions, care coordination, liaison with obstetric staff, liaison with diabetes nurse educators, management of the day-to-day progress of such patients in the ward, discharge and follow up arrangements, during rostered hours of duty.
  • Assessment and management of acute obstetric medical emergencies will be undertaken by the Registrar in collaboration with the obstetric staff.
  • Ensuring patients and their families can exercise their rights and responsibilities.
  • Emergency and routine patient care procedures will be performed under supervision consistent with level of training and experience.  
  • WCHN will meet its legal responsibilities regarding patient and financial record keeping by ensuring case notes and discharge summaries are accurate, concise, legible, signed and completed in a timely manner.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration.
  • At least 2 years satisfactory experience as a Medical Registrar in a recognised teaching hospital.
  • Broad knowledge in the chosen field (eg general medicine, clinical laboratory practice, etc, as applicable to this position)
  • Willingness to incorporate suggestions/feedback/complaints into personal improvement.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills (both clinical and individual).
  • Clinical skills appropriate for the duties performed in the work unit.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and/or high workloads.
