About the role

We are seeking an innovative and highly skilled Systems Support Scientific Lead – Infectious Diseases Pathology to drive advancements in laboratory processes, data management, and emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, and big data. In this role, you will lead the implementation of automated systems, ensure data integrity, and apply coding expertise to develop cutting-edge solutions for data analysis and integration. You will play a key role in optimising laboratory workflows, enhancing diagnostic capabilities, and improving overall efficiency in infectious diseases pathology.

Working in close collaboration with the Directorate Manager, Laboratory Managers, and senior scientists, you will contribute to strategic planning, standardisation of procedures, performance monitoring, and regulatory compliance. As a MeS3-level Medical Scientist, you will provide leadership, mentorship, and coordination within your professional discipline while overseeing resource allocation and operational priorities. About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and analytical Systems Support Scientific Lead to optimise laboratory workflows, manage complex datasets, and drive innovation in infectious disease diagnostics. You will bring a strong background in data analysis, automation, and laboratory leadership, along with expertise in statistical methods, machine learning, and quality control.

  • Expertise in laboratory science & technology – Extensive experience in diagnostic pathology, automation systems, and interpreting and reporting test results in a complex laboratory environment.
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills – Ability to analyse complex datasets, apply statistical methods, and implement machine learning techniques to enhance infectious disease diagnostics and research.
  • Leadership & team development – Proven ability to lead, mentor, and train staff, while fostering collaboration across pathologists, microbiologists, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Technical proficiency & workflow management – Extensive knowledge of quality control, laboratory reporting systems, and automation software, with a focus on improving efficiency and accuracy.
