About the role: 

Reporting to the HoU for the General & Gastro-Intestinal Unit, some of your duties as the Fellow may involve:

  • Involvement in a wide variety of elective and emergency surgery cases. 
  • Daily fellow-led ward rounds Monday-Friday.
  • Presence at Consultant Post-Take Ward Rounds. 
  • Participation in the education and training of the junior medical staff an undergraduate clinical teaching when required. 

About you:

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent degree registerable with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA).
  • FRACS (equivalent).
  • Clinical experience and competence in the practice of surgery as expected for level of training.
  • Research experience and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Surgical skills appropriate to level of training.
  • Several publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Competency in a range of routine and common procedural ward-based skills.
  • High level skills in problem solving and decision making at both the clinical and the individual level.
  • Commitment to clinical audit and participation in continuing medical education activities.
  • Ability to act as a role model for medical students and junior medical staff and have good teaching skills.
  • Experience in self-directed research activity.
