WHAT ARE WE OFFERING?

We are seeking enthusiastic Trainee Medical Officers (TMOs) to join our dedicated, multidisciplinary team within the Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network (BHFLHN). This program offers PGY2+ placements across our rural health services, providing an excellent foundation for a future career as a Rural Generalist.

About the Program
Designed for doctors who have completed their internship, this program provides hands-on experience in both rural general practice and hospital-based medicine. You will have the opportunity to undertake rotations in:

  • Emergency Medicine
  • General Practice / Anaesthetics
  • General Practice / Emergency
  • General Practice / Obstetrics
  • General Practice / Aboriginal Health
  • Medical Inpatients

Available Placements (Multiple Positions):

  • Mount Barker Hospital – Emergency Department, Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • Strathalbyn Hospital – General Medicine Unit
  • Gawler Health Service – Emergency Department
  • Southern Fleurieu Health Service – General Medicine Unit

Eligibility:

  • AMC 1 & AMC 2 required
  • You must hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (or equivalent)

Program Dates (Commencing 2026):

  • Term 1: 2 Feb – 5 May 2026
  • Term 2: 6 May – 4 Aug 2026
  • Term 3: 5 Aug – 3 Nov 2026
  • Term 4: 4 Nov 2026 – 31 Jan 2027

Can commence from Term 1,2,3 or 4

HOW WILL YOU CONTRIBUTE?

  • Provide safe, patient-centred care by managing allocated patients with support from senior clinicians, ensuring thorough assessment, documentation, and effective clinical handover.
  • Strengthen rural healthcare delivery by participating in rotations across Emergency, General Practice, and hospital-based units, gaining diverse clinical experience while supporting local communities.
  • Enhance teamwork and education by collaborating with medical, nursing, and allied health staff, and actively engaging in teaching and training opportunities for peers and junior staff.
  • Drive continuous improvement by contributing to quality and safety initiatives, adhering to SA Health policies, and embracing opportunities for professional development and feedback.
