Overview:

  • Provides specialist scientific and policy leadership on matters that require sophisticated scientific expertise in matters relating to water quality. Assesses, defines and interprets water quality issues, assesses public health risks, recommends appropriate preventive or remedial action and management of exposure to hazards. This position provides professional consultancy on the administration of the South Australian Safe Drinking Water Act 2011.
  • Collaborates with the Principal Water Quality Adviser on health aspects of water quality who is responsible for the provision of high-level specialist advice and policy direction on all public health matters relating to marine and freshwaters, provision of drinking water and management and reuse of wastewaters.
  • Contributes to providing a single 24-hour point of contact within Government for notification of water and wastewater incidents, ensuring communication of the incident to required agencies and Ministers and facilitates the development of a co-ordinated response including, where required, communication of the incident to the public.
