Overview

In this role, the Midwifery Unit Manager, Central Midwifery Group plays a pivotal leadership role within the new BHFLHN Midwifery Model of Care (MMoC), and the management and leadership of midwifery at Mount Barker District Soldiers Memorial Hospital (MBDSMH). You will apply your clinical expertise and experience to effectively coordinate patient care delivery across the maternity service at MBDSMH. The main focus of your role will be the line management, coordination and leadership of midwifery team activities to achieve continuity and quality of patient care. The Central Midwifery Group MUM will provide midwifery management and leadership as the unit transitions to the MMoC, with midwives working across Midwifery Group Practice, Midwifery Antenatal Postnatal Care, and midwives working within the inpatient maternity unit. You will be accountable for the delivery of high quality, women-centred midwifery care which is consistent with the SA Health quality framework. Accepting accountability for the outcomes of midwifery practices in the specific practice setting, you will address inconsistencies between practice and policy and develop team performance and a positive work culture in the interest of patient outcomes. When you join the Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network you can make a real difference and feel like an important part of the community. Knowing that midwifery is more than help with birthing, you will be able to go on a journey of care together with the women in the community.

You will be registered or eligible for registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and hold or be eligible to hold a current practicing certificate. With demonstrated competence in midwifery practice in accordance with the relevant standards of practice, you will have prior experience in management and leadership roles. This will include experience in the supervision of students and early career midwives. You will possess effective leadership skills including highly developed skills in communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation. These skills will equip you to foster a work environment that develops staff potential and facilitates creativity and innovation.

The MUM - Central Midwifery Group role reports to the BHFLHN Midwifery Director and is supported by two Associate Midwifery Unit Manager roles, as well as supported by the MBDSMH site and the broader BHFLHN leadership team. In this dynamic MUM role, you will promote collaboration within the multi-disciplinary maternity team as South Australia's largest regional birthing service.
