We’re looking for health professionals to join us as we open a new, state-of-the-art Mental Health Rehabilitation Service (MHRS) at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH).

About the role

As a Peer Specialist, you’ll use your lived experience to support consumers on their recovery journey, providing hope, encouragement, and practical guidance. Working alongside clinical and non-clinical staff, you’ll help foster independence, social inclusion, and empowerment. Operating within a trauma-informed framework, you’ll share recovery strategies, serve as a role model, and contribute to service planning, helping consumers build confidence and achieve their rehabilitation goals.

About you

As a Peer Specialist you will be passionate about using your lived experience to support others on their mental health recovery journey. You will bring strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to person-centred care. To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Lived Experience & Understanding: Personal experience of living with a mental health condition and an understanding of the challenges consumers face in maintaining health, lifestyle, and employment.
  • Skills & Abilities: The ability to share recovery strategies, role model positive mental and physical health practices, and communicate effectively with consumers, carers, and service providers.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Experience working in group settings, engaging in supervision, and contributing to a multidisciplinary team in a supportive and respectful manner.
  • Knowledge & Approach: A solid understanding of recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and strengths-based practice, with the ability to apply these in a non-clinical, peer-led framework.
