We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Nurse Unit Manager to join our Emergency Department. 

The Flinders Medical Centre Emergency Department is part of the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network and sits within the Division of Medicine, Cardiac and Critical Care. This emergency department cares for patients across the lifespan, with presentations consisting of obstetric, neonatal, paediatric, adult and geriatric. It is also the obstetric trauma centre for South Australia and a designated state trauma centre. 

About the role: 

Reporting to the Network Nursing Director this role will provide direct line report and support and work collaboratively with less experienced members of the nursing team.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Provide the pivotal leadership and co-ordination of patient/client care delivery in a defined ward/unit/service/program to achieve continuity and quality of patient/client care and outcomes and efficient patient/client flow
  • Ensure the effective management of human, financial and physical assets through appropriate planning and allocation of resources to achieve agreed Division / Unit / Ward / Service and strategic plans
  • Identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing, monitoring and maintaining hazard control measures
  • Provide leadership and direction, act as a role model, mentor, consultant and resource person

About you:

  • Effective leadership skills including highly developed skills in communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability in the leadership and facilitation of change management
  • Demonstrated competence in Emergency Department of nursing practice in accordance with the relevant standards
  • Experience in the leadership and direction of student nurses, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate
  • Proven experience in delivering high quality and safe care consistent with the National Safety and Quality Health Care Service Standards
