About the role

We are seeking a proactive and experienced administrative professional to join the Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (MID) Directorate, providing high-level, confidential support that is essential to the smooth operation of the laboratory service. In this role, you will apply your advanced administrative skills and knowledge under general direction, contributing to key operational activities and supporting the broader leadership team in ensuring service excellence.

You will play a vital role in the day-to-day coordination and oversight of administrative functions, including supervising a small team, monitoring workflow, and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and accurately. Your responsibilities will include troubleshooting operational issues, tracking staff performance against key indicators, and supporting continuous improvement through constructive feedback and process monitoring. In addition, you will be expected to contribute to laboratory operations by assisting in laboratory processes. About You

You are an organised, proactive, and experienced administrative professional with a strong ability to lead and support teams in a high-pressure healthcare environment. Your collaborative approach, attention to detail, and commitment to customer service make you an asset to any team.

  • Proven experience in supervising, coaching, and mentoring staff, with strong communication and negotiation skills across all levels of an organisation.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, solve problems efficiently, and maintain high accuracy under time constraints.

  • Proficient in administrative systems, databases, and office software, with sound knowledge of confidentiality, data handling, and pathology specimen requirements.

  • Experience in providing confidential administrative support in a clinical or laboratory setting, with a commitment to delivering quality service and continuous improvement.
