This Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellowship position reports directly to the Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit at Flinders Medical Centre, offering structured mentorship and leadership development opportunities. You'll deliver comprehensive, high-quality care to patients across the Southern Adelaide region through specialised clinics including Rapid Access and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme services, whilst collaborating with nursing staff on consumer hotline support and multidisciplinary team planning. The role includes exciting research participation expectations, allowing you to contribute to advancing inflammatory bowel disease treatment and outcomes alongside clinical excellence.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Head of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and the Head of IBD Unit, some of your duties as the Gastroenterology IBD Fellow may involve:

  • Participating in 3 Rapid Access IBD Clinics weekly working with a Consultant and IBD Nurse. 
  • Independently conducting PBS Clinics for stable IBD patients twice weekly, collaborating with an IBD Consultant where needed
  • Supporting the IBD patient hotline nursing staff providing advice, generating management plans and enacting these.
  • Coordinating the IBD MDT meeting each fortnight and following up management plans in conjunction with the Luminal Registrar.
  • Reviewing inpatients with IBD where necessary in conjunction with the Luminal Ward Consultant and IBD Consultant on call.
  • Participating in teaching and research activities within the IBD and broader Gastroenterology unit as required.
  • Attending IBD team meetings monthly and actively participating in such meetings.

Please note: As per the SMOEA 2022, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12-month allocation as Gastroenterology IBD Fellow will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

About you:

  • MBBS or equivalent, with Full Registration with the Medical Board of South Australia as a medical officer.
  • Registration in final year of or Completion of the Physician Training Programme of the RACP (Advanced Training Programme for Gastroenterology and Hepatology) .
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people including colleagues and other professional staff, proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Completion of a minimum of two core years of Advanced Training.
  • Experience in providing clinical services at a level commensurate with final year of training in gastroenterology and hepatology.
  • Proven experience in basic computing skills, including email and word processing.
  • Experience in clinical care of IBD patience, including safe use of IBD medications and monitoring.
  • Experience in IBD Research.
