About the Role:

The Senior Work Health and Safety Consultant is a key role at FUNLHN, reporting directly to the Director of People & Culture. This position is responsible for providing expert consultancy, advisory, and operational WHS services, ensuring compliance with relevant Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice, Australian Standards, and guidelines, including the Work Health and Safety Act. The role is vital in facilitating continual improvement and achieving the organization’s WHS objectives, as well as maintaining accreditation standards and performance targets.

In this role, the Senior WHS Consultant will work closely with senior management, managers, supervisors, employees, and their representatives to drive the successful implementation of the WHS system across FUNLHN. The position involves identifying, assessing, and controlling WHS risks, as well as reviewing incident and accident interventions, conducting complex investigations, and developing strategies for injury prevention. Other key responsibilities include hazard management, WHS advice, monitoring systems, reviewing safety inspections, hazardous substance assessments, and following up on hazards and incidents. The role also includes supporting health and safety representatives, assisting with elections and maintaining their register, participating in committees, and promoting a culture of safe practices and zero harm.

The Senior WHS Consultant will actively contribute to the development of FUNLHN-specific WHS plans, setting clear priorities, and supporting the introduction of new WHS initiatives. The role involves participating in policy and procedure development, conducting gap analyses, and engaging in continuous quality improvement activities. Collaboration is key, as the consultant will work alongside other teams within FUNLHN and across South Australia’s Workforce Health and People & Culture portfolios to share information, report on WHS activities, and facilitate auditing and training sessions.

This role is instrumental in supporting FUNLHN’s strategic goals and ensuring the successful achievement of Cabinet and program targets. The Senior WHS Consultant will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on workplace safety, health, and wellbeing across the organization, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety excellence.

About You:

  • WHS provision at a senior level within a self-insurer setting.
  • Development and implementation of strategies for improved service delivery.
  • Proven administrative experience including report writing.
  • A proven record in relating to people at all levels in a large complex organisation.
