Overview

A fantastic opportunity is now available to join the Emergency Department (ED) Team at Mount Barker District Soldiers Memorial Hospital. The hospital is located just a 40-minute drive away from the centre of Adelaide and provides care to the communities of Adelaide Hills and the rapidly growing population of Mt Barker. The ED is managed by a team of dynamic and supportive Emergency Consultants and Emergency Nurses. It has recently undergone significant development with the establishment of a new, purpose-built department.

The department currently attends to around 30,000 patients every year, with a significant proportion (~30%) of them being children. It is backed by a comprehensive point of care laboratory and round-the-clock radiology services. The Emergency Department (ED) offers urgent/MET support to the inpatient wards and daytime Renal\Infusion suites. As an Emergency Consultant, you will have the opportunity to handle a diverse range of medical emergencies and utilise various management techniques.

About the Role

A great opportunity is available for dedicated and experienced Emergency Medicine Consultant to ensure the delivery of comprehensive, effective and efficient emergency and medical care. Providing medical services to Emergency Department (ED) patients at the Mount Barker District Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, you will have the opportunity to perform a wide range of procedures. You will provide leadership to the clinical team and facilitate effective clinical review mechanisms and quality improvement processes. Delivering and participating in relevant teaching programs for medical officers and other staff attached to the Department, you will contribute to continuing education programs within the ED. Combining clinical and teaching roles, this is a great opportunity to help establish a combined Australasian College for Emergency and Rural Generalist ED training hub with a reputation for high training standards.

Holding a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, you will have appropriate specialist qualifications and be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration. This will be supported by a proven track record of experience in clinical emergency medicine, in a setting comparable to an Australian Emergency Department. Demonstrating wide experience in the management of paediatric and adult emergencies, you will possess a high level of skill in professional judgement, clinical competence, negotiation and communication within a multidisciplinary setting. Prior experience in the supervision and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff will hold you in good stead for this role.
