Paving the Way to Recovery: Senior OT Position at SALHN's Mental Health Rehab

As a Senior Occupational Therapist, you will play a pivotal role in transforming lives and fostering hope within our Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit. About the role: 

Reporting to the Allied Health Manager, this role is responsible for applying specialised expertise to the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of quality rehabilitative intervention and providing discipline specific assessments, interventions and consultancy service to the team. The OT works collaboratively with consumers, their families/carers and liaises closely with a network of government and non-government organisations to assist consumers whose severity of mental disorder and/or level of disability necessitate regular review, follow-up to facilitate improved functioning and community tenure.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Delivering non-discriminatory treatment and support that is sensitive to the social and cultural values of the consumer and carers,
  • Providing evidence-based mental health OT assessments and interventions to enhance consumer’s living skills, functional and occupational capacity,
  • Coordinating, participating in, initiating, and implementing programs, methodologies, projects, and assignments as negotiated with the team and other appropriate senior staff,
  • Undertaking bio-psychosocial assessment, mental state examination and risk assessment of consumers

About you:

  • Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which entitles full registration as an Occupational Therapist with The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), 
  • Advanced skills in undertaking a comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessment, including mental state and risk assessments of consumers presenting with high or complex needs, 
  • Skills in clinical psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery practices, 
  • High level of competence in the provision of a range of mental health occupational therapy assessments, evidence-based therapeutic interventions and skills including individual and group work.
  • Extensive clinical experience working with people with complex mental health needs.
