About the role

Anatomical pathology trainees are rotated through all major metropolitan hospitals, namely the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH), Flinders Medical Centre (FMC), the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH), and the Womens and Childrens Hospital (WCH), as well as Forensic Science SA.

As a Registrar in Anatomical Pathology, you will be an integral part of the SA Pathology Anatomical Pathology training program, working towards obtaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA). Under appropriate supervision, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality Anatomical Pathology, Cytology and Mortuary services. You will be involved in diagnosing diseases across a broad range of tissue, fluid and specimen types, playing a critical role in supporting clinical decision-making and patient outcomes.

Throughout your training, you will actively participate in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, including teaching, case reviews and self-directed learning. You will also be encouraged to contribute to research activities that advance the field of Anatomical Pathology. This role offers a comprehensive pathway to develop your expertise, with exposure to a wide variety of diagnostic challenges within a supportive and professionally rewarding environment.

About You

You are a motivated medical practitioner with a strong interest in Anatomical Pathology and a commitment to completing the Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA). You bring excellent communication skills, strong diagnostic abilities appropriate to your training level, and the capacity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary laboratory environment.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • A recognised medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with general registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with pathologists, laboratory staff and administrators.

  • Competency in anatomical pathology appropriate to your training level, with the ability to meet report turnaround times and progress towards FRCPA requirements.

  • A commitment to continuous learning, medical education standards, and maintaining professional development throughout your training.
