The successful applicant will be eligible for numerous additional supports including - 

  • A Coober Pedy Attraction and Retention locality allowance on top of the base pay for the Remote Ambulance Officer.
  • Eligible SA Health staff may apply to access the Government Employee Housing program for housing located 100km outside of the Adelaide CBD with 50% Rental Subsidies.
  • Along with the SAAS incentives of a Rolled in Rate (RIR 37.57%), Regional Incentive Payment (RIP$53.72P/W)

The incumbent will be located in remote South Australia and will work closely with local volunteers and community stakeholders to enhance SAAS’s local service delivery and corporate profile.

Taking direction from the Emergency Operations Centre, it is the responsibility of the Remote Ambulance Office to respond to requests for emergency and non-urgent patient care and provide safe transport of patients which complies with SAAS clinical practice, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.

Current authority to practice as an ambulance officer with SA Ambulance Service required

Key Responsibilities:

Provide timely emergency and non-urgent patient care, conduct clinical assessments, apply appropriate patient management strategies, and ensure effective patient transport to health facilities in accordance with SAAS protocols and procedures.

Accurately document and relay clinical findings, interventions, and outcomes to relevant referral points, ensure effective management of SAAS assets (vehicles, supplies, etc.), and undertake administrative functions as required.

Deliver high-quality customer service to patients, communicate professionally with patients, medical professionals, emergency services, and families while considering language and cultural diversity, ensure patient rights and confidentiality, and establish strong relationships with local volunteer teams and community stakeholders.

Ensure the safety of responding personnel, bystanders, and patients at incidents, implement scene and incident management procedures, assess and prioritize risks and resource requirements, direct bystanders and other emergency services, and participate in operational and psychological debriefing sessions.

Maintain and improve knowledge and skills to meet the position's requirements by participate in training, accreditation processes, and assessment activities.

Comply with relevant SAAS standards, including driver, manual handling, and OHS&W training, to ensure safe and efficient operations.
