About the Role

As an Associate Nurse/Midwife Unit Manager, you will deliver high-quality nursing and/or midwifery care within a variety of healthcare settings while supporting the leadership of the ward, unit or service. Building on your clinical experience, you will continue to develop from a competent practitioner to a proficient one. This role carries accountability for your own clinical standards, the delegation of tasks to others, and the supervision and development of less experienced staff.

In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will support the Nurse/Midwife Unit Manager with operational and leadership duties. This includes promoting continuity of care, assisting with practice improvements, and contributing to key workforce activities such as recruitment, rostering, performance management, and resource planning. This is an opportunity to step into a leadership role while maintaining a strong focus on patient-centred care.

About You

You are an experienced and dedicated Nurse and/or Midwife with a passion for delivering high-quality patient care and supporting clinical leadership within your team. Your strong communication skills, ability to prioritise, and commitment to best practice enable you to perform effectively in a dynamic healthcare environment while mentoring and supporting less experienced staff.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Current registration (or eligibility) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, with relevant qualifications in nursing, midwifery or mental health.

  • Minimum of 3 years post-registration experience or current classification as a Clinical Nurse/Midwife, with proven ability to supervise and support junior staff.

  • Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities under minimal supervision.

  • Sound knowledge of nursing/midwifery practice, relevant legislation, standards, codes of ethics, and quality improvement systems within the healthcare setting.
