Join Our Dynamic Team as RN 3 Nurse Consultant - McGrath Cancer Care – SALHN FMC

The Oncology and Haematology Departments within the Division of Medicine and Critical Care Services at Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN), Flinders Medical Centre, is seeking two passionate and dedicated Cancer Nurse Consultants to assist the team to lead clinical excellence and innovation in patient care. About the roles:

The roles of the McGrath Cancer Care Nurse's at SALHN are to support patients and their carers/families following the diagnosis of Lymphoma (0.4 FTE role available) and Brain Cancer and Hepatobiliary cancer (0.6 FTE role available).

In this role, you'll use your cancer knowledge and expertise to elevate patient care and drive better clinical outcomes in a collaborative team. Employees classified at this level are experts within their area and stream of practice and have a significant degree of autonomy and decision making. Reporting to the Advanced Nursing Director in the Division of Medicine and Critical Care, in this role you will have the chance to use your experience and expertise in a variety of ways. You will be assisting the medical teams with the assessment and management of symptoms of the disease and treatment side effects. Along with this you will be promoting selfcare and enhancing self-efficacy through guidance, education, and the facilitation of a multidisciplinary approach to the individual patient’s care and wellbeing using the McGrath model of care. The mode by which the patient contact is delivered will be in a variety of ways, e.g. face-to-face, telephone, email or telehealth. Considerations include the stage in the patient's cancer journey pathway, the type of information being provided, how often contact is being made and the individual needs of the patient.

This role is more than just a position—it’s a chance to make a real impact. There are two positions available for the following tumour steams to support patients’ cancer journey:

  • Lymphoma 0.4 FTE
  • Hepatobiliary and Primary brain malignancy 0.6 FTE

Experience

  • With chemotherapy and other anti-cancer treatment administration/therapies and symptom management
  • In basic computing, including email, word processing and excel
  • Minimum of 3 years of prior full time equivalent experience in cancer nursing
  • Demonstrated competence in cancer nursing practice in accordance with the relevant standards

Educational/Vocational Qualifications

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate
  • Demonstrated competence in cancer nursing practice/treatment/therapy in accordance with the relevant standards
  • Tertiary qualifications relevant to Oncology and Haematology Nursing or working towards e.g. Graduate Diploma
