About the Role

As the Complex Trauma Fellow, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality clinical care to both inpatient and outpatient orthopaedic trauma patients. Working under the guidance of the Head of Unit and senior orthopaedic consultants, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of complex trauma cases while contributing to a collaborative, patient-centred environment. This role offers hands-on exposure to a wide range of complex trauma conditions, with opportunities to develop advanced clinical and surgical skills.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, you will actively contribute to quality assurance initiatives, clinical review programs and postgraduate teaching. You will support the supervision and development of junior medical staff, while also leading key research projects within the department. Participation in the after-hours emergency on-call roster is a core component of this role, offering invaluable experience in acute trauma management in a dynamic, high-volume tertiary setting.

About You

You are a highly skilled and motivated Orthopaedic Surgeon with advanced expertise in trauma management and a strong commitment to clinical excellence. You bring proven leadership, teaching and research experience, along with a collaborative approach to patient care and multidisciplinary teamwork.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

• MBBS or equivalent registrable with AHPRA, with completion of specialist orthopaedic training, ATLS (or similar) and advanced fracture management courses.

• Strong clinical skills in orthopaedic trauma, with experience supervising junior medical staff and managing complex surgical cases.

• Excellent communication, negotiation and leadership skills, with the ability to foster respectful and effective relationships with patients, families and staff.

• Sound knowledge of hospital systems, policies, and principles of safety, quality, equal opportunity and workplace health and safety.
