About the role: 

Reporting to the Aboriginal Health Liaison Team Leader, some of your duties for the role will include:

  • Act as cultural consultant resource for SALHN staff to ensure culturally appropriate service is delivered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients
  • Provide administrative, and reception duties within Karpa Ngarrattendi as needed
  • Promoting smoking cessation and support programs to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and referring them to other health professionals as appropriate
  • In consultation with relevant clinical staff, explain health care and clinical procedure to patients in a manner that is easily understandable and to maximise patients’ cooperation to their care

About you:

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally sensitive and accountable manner with Aboriginal individuals, families and communities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with Aboriginal people, non-Aboriginal people, health workers and other organisations
  • Experience in working closely with Aboriginal health services and mainstream service providers
  • Ability to work collaboratively with health professionals from a range of disciplines
