Overview

Joining the team at Mount Gambier & District Health Service, the ED Consultant will oversee all of safe, efficient, patient-centred medical care within the Emergency Department setting as well as providing clinical leadership within the wider hospital community. The ED Consultant will participate in policy formulation and implementation as well as be involved in human resource management. This will include working with medical and nursing colleagues as well as the application of contemporary ED care processes, such as fast-tracking of patients, nurse-initiated strategies and nurse practitioner-led clinics. The ED Consultant will actively engage in the supervision of junior clinical staff and attend relevant meetings and staff development/education as required.

Qualifications

The successful appointee must hold a Bachelor Of Medicine; Bachelor Of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent and will be registrable with the Medical Board Of Australia/AHPRA as well as having Specialist registration such as Fellowship of the Australian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or an equivalent specialist qualification suitable for supervision of trainees of that College, or Fellowship of Australian College of Remote and Rural Medicine (ACRRM) or the Royal Australian College Of General Practitioners (RACGP). The successful appointee should have extensive experience in clinical practice in emergency medicine and highly competent in the delivery of emergency care, particularly in a rural setting. The ED Consultant is expected to have clinical knowledge, skills, training, and competence in resuscitation, airway maintenance, and circulatory support along with the operational management of retrieval of critically ill patients.
