About the role

CPS is a specialist service at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital providing forensic and psychological support to children affected by abuse, maltreatment, and crime. The Psychologist/Clinical Psychologist delivers therapeutic services, forensic assessments, and crisis responses to children and families, promoting recovery and child protection.

Key duties of the role

  • Conduct forensic psychosocial and parenting assessments to evaluate abuse, neglect, and caregiver capacity.
  • Produce high-quality forensic assessment reports to support investigations and inform court proceedings.
  • Provide urgent crisis response services for inpatients and outpatients referred to Child Protection Services.

Skills and Experience

  • Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification and general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly, resolve conflicts, and collaborate effectively with diverse professionals.
  • Proven expertise in conducting comprehensive clinical assessments and producing high-quality reports.
  • Experience working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating flexibility across assessment, therapy, and urgent intervention roles.
  • Experience in providing direct psychological services to children, adolescents and their families affected by trauma.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in the field of child protection and /or child and family mental health.
