About the role: 

Reporting to the director, this role is responsible for providing a tertiary clinical assessment service to infants, children, adolescents and their family where child abuse and neglect is identified by the Department for Child Protection and/or South Australian Police. This involves the use of individual and family assessment techniques, and formal psychological assessment techniques (including standardised tests)

Duties for the role will include:

  • Providing a clinical service for infants, children and families referred to the Child Safety and Wellbeing Health Service (CSWHS) and the Out of Home Care (OOHC) clinic, which assist in the assessment and treatment of children under the Guardianship of the Chief Executive of the Department for Child Protection,
  • Providing assessment and specialist therapy for infants, children and their carers
  • Constructing high quality comprehensive written reports for completed assessments for the Department of Child Protection,
  • Participating in decision making about children’s welfare and protection through attendance at case conferences and through liaison with other appropriate professionals,
  • Supervising tertiary students on work experience placement at the CSWHS by providing training to enhance their practice, performance and professional development and the university requirements of their placement.

About you:

  • For appointment as a Social Worker an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers,
  • For appointment as a Psychologist an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification recognised by the Psychology Board of Australia and general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia,
  • For appointment as a Clinical Psychologist an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification recognised by the Psychology Board of Australia and general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia within an Endorsed Areas of Practice (Clinical),
  • Demonstrated ability to independently carry out assessments and therapeutic interventions of a complex nature with infants, children, adolescents and their families, using a wide range of best-practice models and approaches,
  • Demonstrated ability to work with vulnerable and complex families,
  • Demonstrated high level skills in communication and managing interpersonal relationships,
  • Demonstrated psychological ability to work in a difficult and emotionally demanding area of professional practice.
