Annual State-Wide Orthopaedic Unaccredited Service Registrar - Multiple Positions Available 2026

You will rotate through diverse facilities in SA Health which include rotations to Royal Darwin Hospital, Alice Springs, and Mount Gambier, managing comprehensive orthopaedic patient care alongside senior medical teams. About the role: 

Reporting to the Head of Unit, this role is responsible for managing the care of all patients presenting to the Orthopaedic department in consultation with the responsible Senior Registrars/Fellows, Consultants, Nurses and Allied Health professionals. The incumbent actively contributes to continuous quality improvement and in continuing education activities. Duties for the role will include:

  • Maintaining a high standard of patient care for inpatients and outpatients, whether on the basis of patient admission under their Unit or on that of consultation by other units,
  • Keeping high quality, readily accessible records of patient care,
  • Providing an effective and accurate clinical handover of patient care at the change of daily shifts and at the change of a clinical attachment,
  • Commencing discharge planning at the earliest opportunity ensuring drugs and equipment are ordered, post discharge management and undertaking follow-up in consultation with the patient’s normal carers and General Practitioner,
  • Implementing administrative procedures consistent with the duties of a unit registrar, including supervision of admission and discharge planning,
  • Maintaining a high level of communication with patients and relatives as appropriate to the circumstances

About you:

  • General registration with the Medical Board of Australia,
  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent,
  • Postgraduate experience in the specialty of Orthopaedics to PGY level 3 or higher,
  • Proven experience in delivering high quality and safe care consistent with the National Safety and Quality Health Care Service Standards. (Mandatory for all clinical positions.),
  • Past experience in clinical department (s) of a teaching hospital

As per the SMOEA 2022, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12-month allocation as Unaccredited Registrar will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills, and capabilities.
