About the role: 

Reporting to the Head of Unit, this role is responsible for providing expertise and specialist clinical duties in Infectious Diseases. The Consultant Infectious Diseases takes part in inpatient and outpatient care, quality improvements, teaching and research in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology and related fields.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Providing appropriate specialist level care in Infectious Diseases to patients in SALHN & regional hospitals.
  • Coordinating the follow up care of inpatients, outpatients & Hospital in the Home patients.
  • Involvement in NSQ standards like Infection Control & Antimicrobial Stewardship activities.
  • Providing supervision in clinical & research to Trainee Medical Officers and Medical Students,
  • Participating in programs designed to provide personal growth and development,
  • Being responsive to the expectations and needs of both clinical and non-clinical colleagues.

About you:

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. Appropriate Specialist Qualifications and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration; or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award,
  • Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Infectious Diseases,
  • Demonstrated high standard of clinical practice in Infectious Diseases,
  • Demonstrated participation in approved continuing medical education since attaining specialist qualification,
  • Recent and extensive clinical experience in Infectious Diseases relevant to the profile of diseases managed in South Australia,
  • Teaching experience in clinical skills, microbiology and infectious disease and post-graduate preparation for FRACP.
