About the Role

As the Unit Secretary, you will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of the Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology. Reporting to the Senior Business Consultant, Surgical Directorate, you will provide high-quality, confidential secretarial and clerical support to ensure the smooth running of departmental activities. Your professionalism, attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities will be essential in maintaining efficient administrative processes.

In addition to your core secretarial duties, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to small projects under direction, supporting service improvement and operational efficiency. This is a rewarding role for someone who thrives in a busy clinical environment and enjoys working collaboratively with a dedicated team to deliver outstanding healthcare support services.

About You

You are a highly organised and professional individual with strong secretarial and administrative skills. You take pride in maintaining confidentiality, working under pressure, and providing high-quality support within a healthcare setting.

  • Skilled and Experienced – Previous secretarial experience with accurate typing (50–60 wpm), audio-typing, and proficiency in word processing and computerised systems.

  • Organised and Self-Motivated – Able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and show initiative in a busy environment.

  • Strong Communicator – Effective interpersonal and written skills, confident taking minutes, resolving conflicts, and engaging across all levels of staff.

  • Knowledgeable and Discreet – Understanding of medical terminology, confidentiality, and hospital operations, with experience handling sensitive information appropriately.
