Southern Adelaide Local Health Network is seeking a passionate, talented, and caring Advanced Peer Specialist to join our Mental Health team

The Statewide Eating Disorder Service (SEDS) is a specialised mental health service providing care to clients across South Australia.  Components of the service include inpatient services, a Day Program, outpatient clinics for adults, adolescents and adjunct group programs. SEDS comprises a skilled multidisciplinary team.

About the role: 

The Advanced Peer specialist maintains a collaborative working relationship and will utilise their lived experience to:

  • Plan and evaluate educational and support sessions for individuals and groups, with the aim of promoting recovery, increasing their psychological wellbeing and self-management strategies, in conjunction with clinical staff
  • Serve as a positive role model to patients and as a source of information on their personal experience of managing mental illness
  • Share recovery skills, strategies and experiences with the consumer group
  • Reduce stigma and create awareness

About you:

  • High level skills in building connected and authentic trusting relationships with consumers and in modelling relatable recovery pathways
  • Minimum Certificate 4 in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness to work towards
  • Experience in working within a health team environment
  • Ability to work with service providers in planning, organising and providing services
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and commitment to acting as a team member
