About the role: 

Reporting to the Manager, this role is responsible for  ensuring optimal care and outcomes by providing a comprehensive range of therapy services to patients receiving supported early discharge and home rehabilitation within the southern metropolitan area. The Exercise Physiologist may also provide specialist services to medical and surgical inpatients to facilitate early rehabilitation and discharge. The Exercise Physiologist may also provide specialist services to patients living in rural and remote areas of South Australia utilising technology such as videoconferencing to provide intervention. 

Duties for the role will include:

  • Assessing patients’ physical abilities, problems and goals using a variety of formal and informal assessments,
  • Planning and implementing intervention programs including using a broad range of technologies including ipads, videoconferencing equipment and therapeutic exercise apps,
  • Devise therapy programs and supervise allied health assistants in their implementation of these,
  • Participating in interdisciplinary clinical and planning activities to enhance the overall service provided to patients,
  • Documenting assessment findings and interventions,
  • Monitoring the levels and types of EP services required by Ambulatory Rehabilitation

About you:

  • Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification, usually in human movements, inclusive of the exercise physiology elective and eligible for accreditation from Exercise Sports Science Australia (ESSA),
  • Ability to assume responsibility for the organisation and provision of Exercise physiology services to Ambulatory Rehabilitation as a member of an interdisciplinary team. This includes ability to undertake assessment and intervention with clients with a variety of disorders and disabilities, including management of complex cases,
  • Ability to critically analyse or evaluate issues related to Exercise Physiology care in a manner which can be applied to quality activities, service evaluation, professional education or research with a commitment to ongoing professional development,
  • Experience as a clinician in the assessment and provision of high quality rehabilitation to clients with a variety of neurological or orthopaedic conditions,
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining high standards of Exercise Physiology,
  • Proven experience in establishing and maintaining high standards of clinical practice as a senior clinician,
  • Experience in the Exercise Physiology management of older people,
  • Experience in the supervision and teaching of Exercise Physiology students allocated to rehabilitation services
  • Training or postgraduate qualifications in relevant clinical, supervisory or management theory or skills
