Join our Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit Team and make a real difference as a Peer Specialist! 

Peer work is a key component of recovery-oriented mental health service delivery. Peer Specialists draw on their own life-changing mental health challenges, service use, and journey of recovery and healing, to support others through a supportive non-clinical relationship based on equity, credibility, mutuality, hope, and empowerment. This role involves assisting with communication flow between consumers and the multidisciplinary team to promote consumer engagement within a person-centreed, recovery-oriented, human rights-based approach!

About the role: 

Duties for the role will include:

  • Drawing from your personal lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery to role-model recovery and act as a recovery champion.
  • Forming authentic peer relationships with consumers by appropriately and purposefully sharing your personal lived experience and understanding of the impact of mental health challenges, service use, and recovery.
  • Working to identify and reduce stigma and discrimination.
  • Supporting the development of consumer skills in self-management, wellness, and safety planning.
  • Assisting consumers to connect with community networks, groups, and services.

About you:

  • Lived experience of mental health challenges, service use and recovery
  • Skills in building connected and authentic trusting relationships with consumers.
  • Advocacy and partnership-building skills to apply in a clinical mental health environment.
  • The ability to support consumers as they navigate mental health and other services

Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work – or currently enrolled in the Cert IV and due to complete within 12 months will be highly regarded.
