Join SA Health's Nutrition Team - Casual Kitchen Assistant

As a WHA3 Diet Kitchen Assistant, you'll be responsible for preparing and packaging therapeutic patient meals and fluids, following precise recipes, to ensure safe preparation and delivery of dietary supplements to patients with specific therapeutic requirements. Your role encompasses critical behind-the-scenes work including stock management, portion control, and maintaining the highest hygiene and safety standards in our dietary preparation areas, while collaborating closely with dietetic and catering teams. This diverse position offers variety, ensuring you'll develop comprehensive skills in therapeutic food service whilst directly contributing to patient recovery and wellbeing.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Manager of Dietetics & Nutrition, some of your duties as the Diet Kitchen Assistant may involve:

  • Ordering and maintaining stock levels of food and utensil items required in the dietary preparation area.
  • Portioning, packaging and/or storing food and fluid items prepared in the dietary preparation area or supplied from the main store or outside suppliers.
  • Preparing and labelling specialised infant formulae per instructions from the paediatric ward and/or dietitian.
  • Participating in dietetic support staff meetings, general staff meetings and strategic planning.

About you:

  • Experience working in a food service area.
  • Experience in the use of commercial cooking equipment in a commercial kitchen. 
  • Clear aptitude for working in a healthcare setting and with people from a variety of cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work under general direction and direct or remote supervision from Allied Health Professionals.
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs of the workplace on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work and communicate as part of a team.
  • Ability to read, talk and write clearly, in English.
