About the role

As a Medical Scientist in SA Pharmacy, you will play a vital role in supporting the safe and cost-effective delivery of drug therapies that enhance patient outcomes. Reporting to the Senior Quality Assurance/Control Scientist – Team Leader and working closely with pharmacy leaders, you will be responsible for coordinating and providing quality control across designated SA Pharmacy sites. Your work will ensure that all manufactured therapeutic goods meet the highest standards of safety, compliance and effectiveness, while contributing to the delivery of a reliable and efficient pharmacy service.

This role also provides the opportunity to mentor, train and support pharmacy staff, graduates and students, helping to build capability across the team and strengthen the Quality Control Service. You will contribute to planning and practice reviews, guide the development of policies and procedures, and act as a point of contact for clinicians and service units on quality assurance matters. With a strong focus on compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice and the Therapeutic Goods Act, you will apply your professional judgement and technical expertise to ensure the safe manufacture, management and accountability of medicines across SA Pharmacy.

About You

We are seeking a motivated and skilled professional with a strong background in laboratory science who is committed to delivering high-quality results in a collaborative environment. You will bring technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and a passion for continuous improvement, ensuring safe and effective laboratory operations.

  • Technical Expertise – Bachelor qualification in Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) with demonstrated competence in analytical chemistry, microbiology, and operation of specialised equipment such as HPLC.

  • Problem-Solving and Initiative – Ability to work independently and as part of a team, using initiative to identify issues, analyse problems and implement practical solutions.

  • Leadership and Training – Proven experience in coordinating laboratory operations, including training, supervising and supporting staff to achieve high standards.

  • Professionalism and Communication – Strong organisational and communication skills, with a commitment to confidentiality, ethical practice, WHS, EEO and diversity principles.
