Join our Mental Health Services Team

The Carer Consultant is a key component of recovery orientated mental health service delivery and will draw on their own lived experience of personally caring for a person with mental illness and accessing the mental health service system.

About the role: 

The Carer Consultant will undertake a range of functions that require a high level of skills and knowledge in carer support.
Duties for the role will include:

  • Provide high level support to carers to articulate their needs and goals, and the way in which they want to receive support, and advocate for their inclusion in care planning and service delivery with the consumers consent.
  • Providing high level carer lived experience, skills and strategies to promote family based recovery and family inclusive practice
  • Delivering and providing a responsive service and support that is able to articulate needs and is sensitive to relationship, social and cultural values of the consumer and family/carer.
  • Support carers to connect with community networks, groups and services relevant to their needs and aspirations.

About you:

  • Lived experience as a carer of a consumer accessing mental health services and support
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain working relationships with a wide range of people from differing cultural / language /sexuality/ health backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated commitment, respect, empathy and appreciation towards the sensitivities of mental health consumers, carers and other stakeholders.
  • Understanding of and empathy for the consumer role in mental health services, including human rights, health, well-being and family relationships, especially in the area of social and emotional well-being.
