About the Role

As a GP Consultant within the South Australia Prison Health Service (SAPHS), you will play a vital role in promoting the health and wellbeing of people in custody and people in the care of Forensic Mental Health Service (FMHS). This position involves providing responsive, patient-centred primary health care that is grounded in social justice and harm minimisation principles. You will deliver high-quality clinical care while also contributing to the development of medical programs, risk management strategies, and hospital avoidance initiatives across the prison health network.

Working collaboratively with nursing, allied health, correctional services staff, and external service providers, you will ensure continuity of care for a diverse patient group. You’ll also support teaching and mentoring of medical students, GP Registrars, and Nurse Practitioners, while contributing to clinical governance and quality improvement within a challenging but rewarding environment

About You

You are an experienced GP with a strong commitment to equity, quality, and innovation in primary care.

  • Fellow of the RACGP or ACRRM, with specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Proven ability to provide high-quality clinical care and develop innovative solutions in complex, multidisciplinary environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teaching experience, with the ability to support medical students, junior doctors, and extended scope nursing staff.
  • Subject to vaccination and clearance requirements.
