Lead Mental Health Excellence - RN2A Associate Nurse Unit Manager | SALHN

Lead clinical excellence as a RN2A Associate Nurse Unit Manager in our specialised Older Persons Mental Health unit. This full-time contract position until October 2025 offers the opportunity to support nursing teams while delivering person-centred mental health care within SA Health's renowned Repat Health Precinct. About the role: 

Reporting to the Team Manager, this role is responsible for assisting the Nurse/Midwife Unit Manager or equivalent in undertaking ward/unit/service management responsibilities, e.g. Performance management processes, recruitment, staffing, leave management, rostering, work allocation and attendance management, financial and supplies planning and monitoring. 

Duties for the role will include: 

  • Ensure that service provision and the activities of the Division / Unit / Ward / Service are person and family centred and professionally and effectively conducted by contributing to the development of an integrated team approach and culture which is highly responsive to the needs of our consumers,
  • Provide proficient, person centred, clinical nursing/midwifery care and/or individual case management to patients/clients in a defined clinical area,
  • Assists and supports the Nurse Consultant/Team Manager or equivalent in management, clinical, and education activities,
  • Participate in clinical teaching, overseeing learning experience, and goal setting for students, new staff and staff with less experience,
  • Comprehensive assessments, care planning and relapse prevention planning,
  • Risk assessment and risk mitigation,
  • Provides psychological therapies and support to clients

About you:

  • Registered as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds a current practicing certificate. Must be enrolled in an approved mental health course or hold a qualification in mental health practice,
  • Demonstrated competency and proficiency in clinical skills appropriate to the area (individual counselling skills and group work skills including planning and preparing psycho-educational therapy group programs),
  • Knowledge and experience of evidence based theoretical frameworks relevant to the field of older persons mental health (such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Focussed Therapy, Relapse Prevention and the Recovery Model),
  • Demonstrated ability to access, plan, implement and evaluate comprehensive mental health care,
  • Demonstrated competence in Mental Health nursing practice in accordance with the relevant standards,
  • Experience in the leadership and direction of student nurses, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses
