About Rural and Remote Mental Health Service

The Rural and Remote Mental Health Service (RRMHS) provides specialised mental health care to consumers across country South Australia.

Our service includes psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, and social workers working together to ensure high-quality, accessible mental health support for regional communities.

We’re seeking a motivated and experienced Consultant or Senior Consultant Psychiatrist (MD2) who can provide clinical leadership and expertise across regional mental health networks.

You will bring:

  • Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia?

  • Demonstrated clinical excellence in psychiatric medicine?

  • Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills?

  • Experience in service development, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary teamwork?

  • Lead the design, planning, and delivery of innovative mental health service models

  • Provide clinical consultation and support to multidisciplinary teams and regional clinicians

  • Ensure services meet best practice standards and deliver optimal outcomes for consumers

  • Participate in teaching, supervision, and professional development of staff and trainees

  • Foster partnerships with local, regional, and metropolitan services to enhance consumer journeys

  • Contribute to mental health research, evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives

WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW/WHAT IS ESSENTIAL FOR SUCCESS?

Working in this environment, it is important to us that we only employ people with the upmost integrity and commitment to serving the South Australian community and its visitors to the highest possible standards.  To ensure that we meet that commitment there are a few checks that you will be required to undertake.  These are detailed on the Role Description, and do vary depending on what is required in the role, but are likely to include the following:

  • You will need to be immunised.  The policy on immunisation is very detailed, so please contact the Enquiries Person for this position if you have any queries.  Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy
  • You will need to undergo employment screening, what you require is also on the front page of the Role Description.
  • You will hold a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent; and  appropriate Specialist Qualifications and be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration; or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award.

Indicative Total Remuneration includes award salary, leave loading, professional development, A&R Allowance, Superannuation, Private Practice arrangements (if applicable)
