About the role

The Principal Aboriginal Mental Health Lead enhances the capacity of CAMHS to effectively provide services to the Aboriginal community through developing, supporting and strengthening existing CAMHS Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal staff. The position supports CAMHS strong commitment to working collaboratively and to strengthening and developing new partnerships both internally and externally.

Key duties of the role

  • Contribute to the development of strategies to attract and retain Aboriginal employees to work within CAMHS.
  • Develop networks and collaborative peer support relationships across CAMHS to maximise coordination, role effectiveness, and promote consistency in Aboriginal workforce standards and service development initiatives.
  • Facilitate staff education and support materials development to enhance Aboriginal employees’ understanding and use of consumer and community input. Consult regularly with Aboriginal staff regarding engagement activities.
  • Represent CAMHS and, where appropriate, take a lead consultancy role in the development and management of consumer and community participation-related projects.

Skills and Experience

  • Appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers or
  • Appropriate Degree or specific qualification as recognised by the Psychology Board of Australia. Must hold general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia and be endorsed for clinical practice or
  • Appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of SA (up to July 2012) or Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (post July 2012) or
  • Appropriate degree or equivalent qualification, which gives eligibility for full membership of the Speech Pathology Association of Australia.
  • Significant management, leadership and direct service provision experience within Aboriginal services and programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in workforce strategies for Aboriginal staff.
