Drive best practice in geriatric nursing by providing advanced, person-centred care and clinical leadership that enhances the health, safety, and wellbeing of older people across RMCLHN.
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Practitioner Candidate to deliver expert clinical care within our Geriatric Services. You will work both autonomously and collaboratively with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care for older people within your defined scope of practice.
As a Nurse Practitioner (RN/M4), you will provide high-level clinical nursing expertise for individual patients and groups within geriatric care settings. You will lead advanced assessment, intervention, and coordination of care across community, residential aged care, and specialist geriatric clinics. In this role, you will also contribute to clinical education, consultancy, and mentoring of staff and students to promote professional growth, while driving evidence-based practice through the development of clinical protocols, standards, and health education resources. You will accept accountability for clinical decision-making, professional advice, and adherence to quality and safety standards to ensure the delivery of the best possible outcomes for older people.
As a Nurse Practitioner Candidate (RN/M3), you will work towards endorsement through supervised practice and postgraduate study, developing advanced clinical knowledge, skills, and leadership capabilities. Under the guidance of an authorised Nurse Practitioner and/or medical staff, you will provide clinical assessment, intervention, and coordinated care within community, residential aged care, and hospital environments. You will play an active role in projects that enhance patient outcomes and service improvement, while accepting accountability for your practice, professional advice, and the outcomes of care provided.
What We’re Looking For:
RN/M4
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate with the notation of Nurse Practitioner.
- Authorised as a Nurse Practitioner with AHPRA.
- Registered Nurse/Midwife with at least 3 years post registration experience.
- Demonstrated advanced level of nursing practice in the care and management of patients in geriatric clinical field in Australia.
- Experience in developing policies, procedures and models of care in the relevant area of clinical practice.
- Experience in the supervision of student nurses, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses.
- Experience with quality improvement methodologies for clinical activities
- Experience in evaluating the results of nursing research and integrating, where relevant, the results into nursing and practice.
- Experience in clinical management and leadership roles.
- Demonstrated skill and effectiveness in leading team approaches to system development and quality management activities.
RN/M3
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate with the notation of Nurse Practitioner.
- Currently hold a postgraduate qualification, relevant, clinically, to geriatric nursing practice with willingness to enrol in master of Nurse Practitioner.
- Advanced understanding of cognitive impairment.
- Experience in BPSD management.
- Experience in working in clinic/outpatient's environment.
- Registered Nurse with at least 3 years post registration experience
- Have a minimum of two years full-time equivalent practice as a registered nurse in a Geriatric clinical field in Australia.
- Demonstrated advanced level of nursing practice in the client care and management.
- Experience in the supervision of students, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses and or midwives.
- Experience in triage/assessment and expert clinical decision making and the development and/or facilitation of out of hospital services and strategies.
