The Retrieval Fellow MedSTAR Kids will work with an experienced Neonatal and Paediatric Retrieval Nurse to deliver high quality, patient focussed care to critically ill or injured children and neonates.

The Retrieval Fellow MedSTAR Kids will respond by road vehicle, turbo prop fixed wing aircraft or helicopter and will bring experience in neonatal and paediatric critical care medical disciplines to patients in inter-facility transport and retrieval environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide critical care medical support during paediatric and neonatal retrievals, working alongside retrieval nurses to stabilise and transport patients via road, helicopter, and fixed-wing aircraft across South Australia and interstate
  • Participate in operational shift rosters including 10-12 hour day, evening, and night shifts plus on-call duties, mentoring junior medical staff during complex retrieval procedures
  • Maintain clinical equipment readiness through regular checking procedures, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring thorough knowledge of all medical equipment and emergency pack contents
  • Lead quality assurance processes including daily case review meetings, clinical data entry, incident reporting through the Safety Learning System, and development of evidence-based policies and procedures
  • Contribute to research initiatives and educational programmes including neonatal and paediatric intensive care training, and specialist retrieval medicine courses
  • Promote professional standards and positive representation of SAAS MedSTAR through collaborative teamwork, participation in counter-disaster activities, and adherence to workplace health and safety regulations
