The Retrieval Registrar MedSTAR Kids will respond by road vehicle, turbo prop fixed wing aircraft or helicopter and will bring experience in neonatal and paediatric critical care medical disciplines to patients in inter-facility transport and retrieval environments.

The Retrieval Registrar MedSTAR Kids will be supported and mentored prior to independent retrieval operations and via ongoing teaching, training, audit and quality assurance activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical care for critically ill and injured children and neonates during medical retrievals by road, rotary wing and fixed wing aircraft throughout South Australia and interstate
  • Participate in operational retrieval shift roster including 8 or 12-hour day, evening and night shifts plus on-call periods as a medical team member alongside retrieval nurses
  • Maintain comprehensive clinical documentation and complete computerised patient care records for all retrieval processes and patient interactions
  • Ensure all SAAS MedSTAR clinical equipment remains in optimal readiness through regular checking procedures, troubleshooting issues, and restoration activities including cleaning and restocking
  • Participate in quality assurance processes including daily case review meetings, data entry, policy development, research projects, and incident reporting through the Safety Learning System
  • Engage in ongoing education programmes including neonatal and paediatric intensive care training, retrieval medicine courses, and counter disaster preparedness activities
