Palliative care nursing offers the advantage of providing a meaningful impact in patients’ lives by providing comfort, dignity and support, at a time where they are most vulnerable. Healthcare professionals working in palliative care not only focus on physical symptoms but also on emotional, psychological and spiritual needs whilst, forming compassionate connections with patients and their families. Palliative care is a rewarding environment that encourages holistic care, teamwork and continuous learning and where empathy and purpose are at the core of daily work.

Rehabilitation nursing is a fulfilling specialty allowing clinicians to make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives. Whilst collaborating within a dedicated multidisciplinary health care team, nurses working in this specialised practice focus on helping individuals with a disabling injury or illness. Through personalised, goal driven care plans, rehabilitation nurses address physical, cognitive, emotional and social needs, assisting patients to regain independence, confidence, autonomy and to move through often challenging recoveries. Rehabilitation nurses play a vital role in helping patients rebuild skills and achieve their highest potential by fostering collaboration and positivity. They act as educators, advocators, coordinators and encourage active participation in therapy and daily routines based on patients’ individual needs. Ultimately, rehabilitation nursing is a life changing role, providing the ability to empower patients to reach their highest potential.

Geriatric nurses will promote ageing with dignity, respect and compassion through valuing patients time, supportive communications and shared decision making. The goal of the geriatric nurse is to integrate new and existing services to support older people across the continuum of care. Nurses in this specialty will embed flexible service models which are able to provide care in the hospital, interim accommodation or community settings including RACFs.
