About the role

As the Medical Scientist, you will be a key contributor to high-quality diagnostic services within a specialised chemical pathology laboratory. You will perform both routine and complex testing, process biological specimens, prepare reagents, maintain laboratory equipment, and assess quality control data to support accurate and timely results. You will also take part in the Directorate trainee scientist program, contribute to general laboratory operations, and participate in after-hours services, ensuring seamless and efficient service delivery across the laboratory.

In this technically focused and collaborative role, you will apply your scientific knowledge to a broad range of diagnostic techniques, supporting problem definition, planning, execution, analysis, and reporting. Under supervision, you will contribute to the evaluation, development, and adoption of new techniques and methodologies that strengthen laboratory capability and enhance service quality. About You

You are an enthusiastic and detail-oriented emerging scientist who is committed to delivering accurate, high-quality diagnostic services within a busy pathology laboratory. With strong scientific foundations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, you bring initiative, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to learning and continuous improvement.

  • Educational/Vocational Qualifications – Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science), or an equivalent qualification.

  • Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills – Strong ability to learn specialised laboratory methods, follow procedures with limited supervision, communicate effectively, prioritise workload, maintain accuracy, troubleshoot equipment, and handle confidential information professionally. Demonstrated initiative, punctuality, teamwork, customer service capability, and high-quality scientific and technical skills.

  • Experience – Experience using analytical laboratory equipment, laboratory computing systems, data retrieval and processing tools, with previous exposure to general pathology laboratory environments.

  • Knowledge – Sound understanding of laboratory principles, scientific concepts, and quality procedures that support reliable diagnostic testing and safe laboratory practice.
