Join our Mental Health Team as a Peer Specialist

Are you passionate about using your lived experience of mental health recovery to make a difference? The Margaret Tobin Centre is seeking a Peer Specialist to join our multidisciplinary team and help support consumers on their recovery journeys.

As a Peer Specialist, you’ll draw on your own experiences of mental health challenges, service use, and recovery to offer hope, understanding, and empowerment through genuine, non-clinical relationships. You’ll work alongside clinicians to:

  • Support consumers in developing self-management, wellness and safety planning skills.
  • Promote recovery-oriented, person-centred, and trauma-informed approaches within the team
  • Enhance communication and collaboration between consumers and staff to improve treatment outcomes.

About you:

  • Proven ability to build authentic, trusting relationships with consumers and to advocate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and clinical environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to purposefully use personal lived experience of mental health challenges, service use, and recovery to support others’ recovery, self-determination, and goal setting.
  • Sound understanding of peer work values and principles, and approaches that are person-centred, recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, human rights-based, and focused on self-determination.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with consumers, families, carers, and community services to enhance engagement, inclusion, and connection with social, recreational, and support networks.
  • Certificate 4 in Mental health Peer work or willingness to work towards is desired
