About the role

The Medical Scientist provides specialised respiratory diagnostic services for infants to adolescents, performing routine and complex lung function tests, maintaining equipment, ensuring quality assurance, and supporting administrative duties as part of a multidisciplinary team within Respiratory & Sleep Medicine.

Key duties of the role

  • Provision of Routine Clinical Physiology Testing Services
  • Participate in routine quality assurance activities including calibration and validation of equipment, etc.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge in the field of Respiratory Medicine by reading journals, texts and attendance at professional meetings
  • Actively participate in a positive and innovative team-work culture and promote safe work practices within and outside the Department of Respiratory & Sleep Medicine.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in particular verbally, with the public, co-workers and all levels of medical staff and able to establish a rapport with children and parents.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and exercise effective time management skills to ensure efficient running of the laboratory services whilst working under time constraints.
  • Routine creation and use of spreadsheets, word-processing, and on-screen presentation software.
