Join our dynamic Healthy Families Team as Aboriginal Child Health Development Officer in a unique multi-classified role - either as a Trainee (OPS3) or Practitioner (OPS4) - and help make a meaningful difference in your community.

Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic applicants for the position of Aboriginal Child Health Development Trainee/Practitioner (OPS3/OPS4) within our Child Health and Development (CHAD) Team.

OPS3 – Aboriginal Child Health Development (Trainee):

• Role Summary: Support Aboriginal children and families by providing culturally appropriate health and development care. Work under the supervision and guidance of Allied Health Professionals and learn to deliver early childhood therapy and primary health care.
• Key Responsibilities: Facilitate access to health services, assist with referrals, provide cultural advocacy and support, participate in health screening, and promote culturally safe practices.
• Training: Will undertake a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice as part of the role.

OPS4 – Aboriginal Child Health Development (Practitioner):

• Role Summary: Deliver culturally appropriate health and development care for Aboriginal children and families as an active member of a multidisciplinary team. Provide leadership in advocacy, community engagement, and contribute to policy and service development.
• Key Responsibilities: Lead service engagement with community, provide direct care under supervision, act as a cultural authority, advise staff, develop service initiatives, and support team development.

Essential Criteria:

• For OPS3 (Trainee): Experience with Aboriginal communities preferred; undertaking the required certificate as part of the role.
• For OPS4 (Practitioner): Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice and registration as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner.
• Ability to work respectfully within Aboriginal communities, form empathetic relationships, and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.

Yorke and Northern Local Health Network has determined that an exemption to prefer Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants granted by the Equal Opportunity Tribunal of South Australia under sections 34(2) and 56(2) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (SA) applies to this position. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is considered essential and therefore a Confirmation of Aboriginality may be requested.
