About the role

The Clinical Nurse Diabetes Education delivers expert, patient-centred diabetes care, collaborates with families and health teams, oversees nursing practice, mentors staff, and applies evidence-based standards while continually developing advanced skills.

Key duties of the role

  • Assess, plan, and coordinate care and appropriate service delivery options to achieve patient care outcomes.
  • Apply professional standards and adhere to policies, protocols, and procedures while working within a model of patient centred care.
  • Assist in the provision of clinical specialist services and the promotion of continuous and consistent care to patients and families in need.
  • Participate in clinical teaching, overseeing learning experience, and goal setting for students, new staff and staff with less experience.

Skills and Experience

  • Registered Nurse/Midwife with at least 3 years, full time equivalent, post registration experience.
  • Experience working with patients who have Type 1 & 2 Diabetes Mellitus, and Gestational Diabetes.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to people from a diverse range of cultural and social backgrounds
  • Experience in the leadership and direction of student, enrolled, and less experienced registered nurses.
