Help Transform Lives - Support Worker, SA Health Drug & Alcohol Team

Join SA Health as a casual Support Worker in our Drug and Alcohol Services, where you will provide essential support to individuals and families on their recovery journey in the Adelaide Hills community. This flexible role offers you the opportunity to work alongside experienced healthcare professionals while making a genuine difference in people's lives through person-centred care and practical assistance. You will help deliver comprehensive support services including group programs, individual sessions, and community connections as part of our dedicated SALHN team.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Manager, this role is responsible for contributing to the well-being of residents of the Woolshed therapeutic community by providing administrative, case management, and clinical support during normal business hours, evenings, and weekend shifts.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships with clients and their significant others,
  • Upholding the principles of the Woolshed Therapeutic Community as seen in the Woolshed staff manual and Australasian Therapeutic Essential Elements,
  • Role modelling positive lifestyle changes through interactions and engagement in one-to-one and group settings, whilst also upholding and supporting therapeutic community culture and principles,
  • Supporting engagement in recovery-based social activities on and off the inpatient site,
  • Maintaining a harmonious working environment through open communication with staff and residents of the therapeutic community,
  • Facilitating peer support discussions in one-to-one and group setting utilising lived experience,
  • Providing craft and diversionary activities, inclusive of art and music activities
  • Provision of written and/or verbal reports regarding clients’ progress in the program when required

About you:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain close interaction with clients,
  • Ability to live and portray a positive role model for clients as a person of sober habits, consistent behaviour, and reasonable judgment,
  • Demonstrated ability to work under limited direction and to set priorities in day-to-day work,
  • Ability to communicate both in writing and orally and negotiate effectively with a diverse range of
  • people and maintain confidentiality,
  • Insight, compassion, and skills gained through exposure to drug or alcohol problems
